Distracted driving continues to cause accidents and fatalities

A frightening two-thirds of US motorists admit to multitasking while driving, and the state of New Jersey is not immune to this problem. While it may seem innocent enough to glance at your phone to read the news or change a song, distracted driving is a major cause of accidents and injuries on the road today.

How distracted are today’s drivers?

A survey created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that 64% of participants aged 18 and older acknowledge distracted driving. It has become a leading contributor to motor vehicle accidents in the US and around the world.

Some 24% of survey takers admit to singing music at the top of their lungs, 21% admit to eating while driving and 11% admit to texting behind the wheel. Surprisingly, 3% of participants also admitted to applying makeup or even shaving while operating a car on the road with other drivers.

Individuals failing the driver’s test at an alarming rate

In another survey by the Hankook Gauge Index, a survey revealed that at least 10% of drivers fail their first driving test even if they have complete prior training. Maintaining your position on the road as a defensive driver is your best bet whenever you are operating a vehicle.

What if you are in an accident involving a distracted driver?

Being the victim in a motor vehicle accident is never easy or pleasant, especially when you are injured or even faced with life-threatening consequences. If you find yourself the victim of a distracted driver on the road, it is important to seek competent legal counsel. This will maximize your protection while helping you get the justice you seek and the compensation you deserve.

Although it is not always possible to prevent distracted drivers from heading out onto the road, it is possible to obtain a legal representative who will work to ensure your case is taken seriously. Whenever you are involved in an auto accident and you are not at fault, working together with legal professionals can help you on your journey to get your life back on track.
